- Our 4 Sorority Pillars -
Leadership is a main component of the sorority. Enhancing and challenging the abilities of our members is our top objective. Therefore, we seek women who are interested in actively participating as leaders within the organization and on their respective university/college campuses.

Academic Excellence
As women in higher education, we aim for the one thing that we came to UIC for, to earn our degrees. Fulfilling standards of excellence in academics ensures our members have the tools necessary to accomplish scholastic success. Many of our sisters are gain the skills to become leaders on and off campus to take with them after graduation. Giving and receiving support from one another allows us to know that the goals we reach for is more rewarding!
Many of our members have gone on to achieve advanced and terminal degrees after completing an undergraduate program. Some include nursing, engineering, education, pre-law, pre-med, Masters degrees, Doctorate degrees, and much much more! Members are encouraged to participate in activities that help improve communication and study skills, and are a part of leadership positions on campus.
Community Service
Our members are committed to serving as role models within our communities while supporting philanthropy and community service initiatives. We offer many community service opportunities that our members can partake in. All sisters who join our organization find a sense of purpose and gratitude in giving back to our communities. As a group of largely Latina women, we also find it important to give back to the Latino community as we know firsthand the struggles that affect our people and how to communicate and respond to them. Our organization also has a national philanthropy of the American Diabetes Association and a Chapter philanthropy of The Alliance for Lupus Research.
In the past, Beta chapter sisters have participated in the American Diabetes Association Chicago walk, The Chicago Lupus walk, the Hot Chocolate Run, The Shamrock Shuffle and more. We’ve also volunteered at the Chicago Food depository and mission of our lady of the angels to provide food for lower income communities
Cultural Awareness
Our sisters enjoy actively building upon their understanding of culture and time and time again point to Cultural Awareness being a pillar they actively use within their adulthood and careers. As an organization, culture is an integral part of our lives. Our members come from all ethnicities and we like to celebrate diversity of people. We are a Latina-oriented sorority, but we not exclusive, and our biggest goal is to share, learn, and celebrate cultural heritage with everyone.

Being culturally sound and AWARE is very necessary in this day and age. Going to one of the most diverse campuses in the nation, it’s important to actively try and expand our knowledge of our cultures and others. Beta Chapter has hosted and participated in numerous events with several organizations to broaden our understanding of culture. Some examples being our signature event, Mr.GPhiO Event with several participants from LGC and GPAAC amongst others that we collab with other organizations.
Sisterhood
“Unity and Sisterhood, Now and Forever, One and Inseparable”
Our sorority creates a bond amongst women that we like to describe as an “everlasting friendship”. We unite through support and respect for our differences. We turn to our sisters for help and advice, to share laughs, and to establish relationships that we will endure now & forever. As a sorority, Sisterhood runs deep within our members. It’s a bond that we each choose to uphold as a member and has been the fuel for Beta Chapter for over 30 years.
Sisterhood begins with each line and evolves over the years. The memories created amongst line and chapter sisters is indescribable and personal to each Swan. What’s created during our time in Brillante Beta chapter is never forgotten and moves on with our sisters past graduation and into their adulthood.
